“Set your minds on things above…” – Colossians 3:2 (NIV)
In Colossians 3:1-4, we are encouraged to seek spiritual things and not to worry about the things of this world. Our life is now with Christ.
Brethren, contentment is a matter of acceptance from God’s hands – a state of being satisfied with what we have – whatever He has blessed us with. 1 Peter 5:7 says cast all our anxiety unto God, for He cares for us. Isn’t this a command to willingly obey? God knows what we need and what He has given to us or blessed us with so that it will not destroy us.
Worrying opens the door to fear. The secret of learning to be content in any situation is linked with trusting God (Philippians 4:11-12), whether we have plenty or little, fed or hungry. These things are rooted in an eternal source of trust in God’s goodness and sovereignty.
It’s not about pretending that things are right when they are not; it’s about allowing God to keep our circumstances under His control. The peace and joy that come from such a position is knowing that the God we serve is bigger than any problem and that He works them out for our good regardless of the circumstances and situations we face every day. It’s a combination of the heart and mind, our attitude, and our external expression.
Every believer must choose wisely to be content. It’s like a mustard seed: with God’s grace, it grows over time, and we reap its harvest with joy. Paul says that God’s grace is sufficient for every believer, regardless of how critical it looks (2 Corinthians 12:9). So, rest in the Lord since greed can destroy the capacity to enjoy what God has given to us.
As we trust God, give thanks in all circumstances. When we are free from worrying and anxiety, we experience God’s presence and peace. Boast in the Lord and allow His power to rest in you always. Be encouraged, and allow your inner and outer attitude to display and be blessed by God’s provision.
