Establishing a Godly Home

“…Serve the Lord you God, so that His fierce anger will turn away from you.”

2 Chronicles 30:8 (NIV)

The family is seen as the bedrock of society. Therefore, it is essential that our families are established on the principles of the Word of God. As such, choosing a life partner is important to this process because there are far-reaching consequences for both the individual and the family.

In Genesis 24:1-4, we read about the gravity of this decision. Father Abraham did not intend for his son, Issac, to become entangled with the heathen culture that was pervasive at that time. He remembered the promises God made to him and valued them. His son would marry an appropriate partner, a godly wife, to ensure the continuation of God’s blessings upon the family. Abraham’s desire was fulfilled (Genesis 24:66-67).

In establishing a godly home, each family member must understand their roles and responsibilities and perform them wholeheartedly for subsequent generations to understand and follow so that order and righteousness would prevail.

  1. The husband/father must love, sacrifice, and not exasperate (Ephesians 5:25, Ephesians 6:4 – NIV)
  2. The wife must submit (Ephesian 5:22 – NIV)
  3. The children must obey (Ephesians 6:1-3 – NIV)
  4. The husband must pray by a certain manner (1 Peter 3:7 – NIV)

Friends, the very core of establishing a Godly home is rooted in us being willing to be obedient to the Word of God and living according to the pattern set forth in His Word. Are you willing to be obedient?
