Family Bond

“One who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence (for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?);  – 1 Timothy 3: 4- 5 (NKJV)

Family is extremely important to God. The Bible tells us how God created the family as the foundation of human relationships. His Word is filled with instructions about the family. We are all born into families. We are developed and nurtured through a community of families.

However, each family is unique because everyone in our family is unique. We can see these distinct differences in the attitudes, personalities, and actions of each individual family member.

Have you noticed that we could learn a lot about each other by our behaviour within our family unit? Yes, as a matter-of-fact Apostle Paul made a person’s actions and attitudes toward his family a test to determine his spiritual maturity and qualification for leadership in the church (1 Timothy 3:8-10).

That same principle applies today. There are some in the world that may have different ideas about the family, but God’s design has not changed and will never change. For each of us, male and female – young and old – our character and personality are influenced by our family dynamics. We display whether we are honest, trustworthy, compassionate, empathetic or selfish.

Now tell me, are you seeking to be faithful and trustworthy in the unique role God has designed for you? As a husband, wife, father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister; seek to be faithful and trustworthy in the specific role you were born and designed for. Let those qualities be manifested in your sphere of influence; work, church/ministry, home, and community.

PRAYER:

Lord, I commit my life to You. I ask oh Lord that you give me Your attitude towards my family. Help me to be faithful and trustworthy with all that You have entrusted to me. This I pray in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
