Favour of God

“For thou, Lord, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt Thou compass him as with a shield.” – Psalm 5:12 (KJV)

Sometimes, life can be challenging. This can cause us to take our eyes off God and become so focused on the circumstance or problem that we forget Who we serve. I have learned to store up memories of God’s goodness for those trying times.

In those situations that God has turned around, and you know it’s only by His grace and favour, I admonish you to journal those precious miracles that changed your circumstances. Our human mind is so limited that we tend to forget we serve a big and incredible God. Therefore, no situation, human being, illness, nothing or no one can stop God’s unmerited favour. So, this year, change your perspective and hold fast to those blessings you have already received as you wait expectantly for more.

“…The very center and core of the whole Bible is the doctrine of the grace of God….” says Theologian J. Gresham Machen. Thus, the unmerited favour of God is the grace of God. It is the love of God shown to the unlovely and the peace of God given to the restless. The unmerited favour of God is not that we deserve it, “But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8 – KJV). God loves us regardless of our ethnicity, religion, or status. His favour and grace are available to all. He is waiting for you to accept Him.

What does it mean that Christ died for us? It means that He died in our place. Because of our sins, we deserve judgement. We deserved death, but Christ took that judgement for our sin on Himself on the cross, even before we knew Him. He suffered and died in our place. We should take this act as evidence of God’s great love for us. It’s unmerited.

It takes love to die willingly for someone else, even if they’re a “good” person (Romans 5:7). But we, those who have been saved, were still sinners, and we weren’t going to improve, so He died. Why don’t you give him your life today? He gave His for yours.
