“The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.” – Psalm 29:11 (NIV)
A friend recently admitted she could not remember the last time she sat in silence. Her mornings began with notifications, her afternoons were packed with meetings, and her evenings ended with endless scrolling. She was not physically tired so much as emotionally drained.
I think many of us know that feeling. I know I do.
Psalm 29 describes the awesome power of God. His voice thunders over the waters, shaking the earth and reminding us that He reigns over all creation. However, the psalm closes with a beautiful promise: “The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.”
That peace is shalom; it is more than the absence of conflict. It is wholeness, security, and the quiet confidence that comes from knowing God is in control. It is the kind of peace that settles an anxious heart even when life is anything but calm.
I’ve realised that the loudest voice in my life should not be fear, breaking news, social media, or the endless demands for my attention. It should be God’s voice. He is the source of my strength, and His peace is stronger than the anxiety that tries to take root in my heart.
Maybe finding peace today is not about clearing your calendar or escaping your responsibilities. Maybe it’s about choosing which voice gets your attention first.
When we tune our hearts to God, we discover that the noise of the world does not drown out His peace. It rises above it.
Prayer
Lord, quiet the noise that competes for my attention and drains my soul. Help me focus on Your voice above every distraction. Fill me with Your strength, surround me with Your shalom, and teach me to rest in Your presence, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
