Firmly Rooted in Christ
Colossians 2:6-7 (HCSB)
Therefore, as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, overflowing with gratitude – Colossians 2:6-7 (HCSB)
A farmer who is serious about his profession always pursues good seeds, good soil with all the required nutrients, and the best tools/equipment suitable for the job. In other words, he makes a significant investment based on the results desired. Moreover, healthy plants firmly rooted in good soil, receiving adequate sunlight and water will bear good fruit. And likewise, sometimes they may need additional nutrients and protection from destructive insects.
In like manner, when we make the choice to accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour, we would have made the best investment in our lives for the present and also the future. Therefore, as believers, we must always seek to have a deep relationship with the Lord. This is possible when we put our faith and trust in God our Father who knows everything about us and is always willing to help us mature as children of light. We also need to expose our lives to elements of growth such as prayer, fasting, giving, and Bible study. In essence, we need to be good ground so that when the seed of the Word of God is planted in our lives we will bear fruit a hundred-fold (Matthew 13:8).
Beloved, know that when you are planted, destructive elements and obstacles will come your way to distract you, but once you remain deeply rooted in Christ they will never hinder your growth and development.
