“By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.” – Hebrews 11:8 (NIV)
The call of God requires obedience and faith. Many of us are aware of and understand the call of God in our lives, but we often wait for the perfect time and opportunity to submit to His will. We let doubt and fear restrain us from obeying His call.
However, it is of utmost importance that we remember that God’s call on our lives doesn’t just concern us. Our purpose impacts the lives of others. Therefore, when we run, we rob others of the value we were intended to add to their life. Think of Jonah (the Book of Jonah) and God’s call on his life; he was instructed to warn Nineveh of their coming judgement if they did not repent. Jonah was unhappy with this task and chose to run. God, in His mercy, pursued and redirected him to complete the mission, which allowed the people of Nineveh to be saved. Jonah’s delay directly impacted the people around him; for example, the sailors on whose ship he was sailing suffered through a storm that was directly tied to his disobedience.
We can never truly thwart God’s plan when we fail to do what He asks us to do, but by choosing our own will, we affect the lives of others and create problems for ourselves. We delay our blessings, experience spiritual stagnation, miss out on opportunities, and suffer from many other effects. Therefore, we must endeavour to do what is right in God’s eyes. When we do so, we create a spiritual atmosphere that encourages God’s presence, we experience His blessings, and we positively influence the lives of those around us.
As children of God, we must take our calling seriously and surrender ourselves to God so that His plans can unfold in our lives. Put away doubt, fear and every other excuse that the enemy feeds us. Remember God’s Word: He said He will never leave us or forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:8). He is capable of accomplishing every work that He has called us to. We can never lose when we allow God to take complete control of our lives, so don’t hesitate, give Him your all today!
Prayer
Dear God, I thank You for choosing me and incorporating me into Your great plan. Give me the courage to do what You’ve called me to do. Guard me from doubt and fear and fill me with Your supernatural faith, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
