‘Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me, even if he dies, will live.” – John 11:25 (CSB)
We all know the amazing account of Lazarus being resuscitated after four days of being
dead (John 11). The situation seemed hopeless when he was sick. Jesus was informed of his sickness, but didn’t hasten to Lazarus’ house. He chose to remain where he was for two more days (Verse 6).
That’s the case in our lives at times. Our circumstances may need God’s immediate intervention, yet we experience delays, which concerns us but not our Lord Jesus. We may be convinced that He is not hearing us, but the truth is He is hearing and answering us. John 11:4 (CSB) says, “…This sickness will not end in death but is for the glory of God, so that the son of God may be glorified through it”. But Lazarus died and was placed in a tomb.
Brothers and sisters, God doesn’t answer the way we want, nor does He show up when we want Him to, necessarily. However, He has already given the answer because He is in control, not us. God has many ways to answer our prayers; let us not contain Him in our limited thinking. Jesus is Lord and will come through for us; it doesn’t matter how it looks – He has already answered. John 11:11 (CSB) says, “…Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I am on my way to wake him up.” Jesus saw the situation differently from man and went to address the matter, bringing about a miraculous outcome.
Martha said, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother wouldn’t have died” (John 11:21, CSB). Sounds familiar, right? When the answer doesn’t look the way we imagined, we tend to give up or tell God how it should have been done. We must rest in His character, however, and trust that His way is the right way for us. Let Him work it out. Yes, He can perform a miracle for you, too!
Lazarus’ account was used as an evangelical tool to glorify God and to bring people to Him. Is your story being set up for the testimony of God’s goodness and greatness in your life? Trust His timing. Lazarus was resuscitated; Sarah was past the age of childbearing, but still delivered. Know this, because Jesus is the resurrection and life, all things are possible. Allow the Holy Spirit to work.
