“He is not here; He has risen, just as He said. Come and see the place where He lay.”
Matthew 28:6 (NIV)
Several accounts in the Bible record the story of Jesus’ suffering, death, and resurrection. Though slightly different in perspective, they all capture what actually took place. Jesus suffered!
Firstly, at the hands of His friends. Second, He suffered at the hands of His enemies. Then, He suffered for all of mankind on the Cross. His suffering was emotional, physical, and spiritual, but it was not in vain. He suffered and died to pay our debts. He was the atonement for all our sins.
When the Romans crucified Jesus that Friday, they did not know the outcome would be ‘good’. It was indeed a “Good Friday” because of what was going to happen three days later. What happened? He arose. Yes, on the third day, Jesus arose. Hallelujah! Easter Sunday came.
To the Christian, Easter is not a pagan holiday. It is not about eggs and bunnies. It is not even about kites. It is not merely a celebration of an event in history. It is the very foundation of our Christian Faith as stated in 1 Corinthians 15:13-15. It is everything! Without it, our preaching is empty. It’s a proclamation that Jesus is the Lamb of God who sacrificed Himself for the redemption of the entire world. It marks the triumphant victory of Jesus Christ over death and the grave, demonstrating His power to conquer sin and offer eternal life to all who believe in Him.
Rejoice because Jesus is alive. Death could not hold Him down. He is the Risen Lamb, seated in Majesty. He is our Redeemer, the King of kings and the Lord of Lords, the only True and Living God, the I Am, the conquering Lion of the tribe of Judah.
Here is our acrostic about EASTER:
- E is for EMPTY. He’s no longer in the grave.
- A is for the AMAZEMENT that those who went to the tomb experienced.
- S is for the SACRIFICE Jesus became for all Mankind.
- T is for the TIME He spent in the Tomb.
- E is for ETERNAL. Jesus is from everlasting to everlasting.
- R is for RESURRECTION. He is RISEN and He REIGNS Forevermore.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son Jesus to be the propitiation for our sins. Help me to live a life that is pleasing to You as I endeavour to serve You all the days of my life. May I always remember what You did for me on the cross, in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
