“And with all His abundant wealth through Christ Jesus, my God will supply all your needs.” Philippians 4:19 (GNT)
What is God’s promise to us? To supply all our needs.
What are our needs? Our needs can best be described as that which is needed for our survival. On the other hand, what are our ‘wants’? These are things that we decide we want to acquire so as to feel special or that may bring us pleasure or happiness.
Are both our needs and wants of interest to God? Yes. God is interested in our whole being. Let’s look at it this way: One basic need to survive may be a house for one’s family. The want of a ‘nice’ house, however, will qualify the distinction.
In Psalm 37:4, we see our desires are fulfilled when we delight ourselves in the ways of the Lord, i.e., when we begin to recognise and acknowledge our relationship with Him and when we take Him everywhere we go. Our receiving must not seem conditional but out of a desire to get to know Him more – relational. We do not stand as beggars with outstretched hands, but we enter into communion to receive from Him.
God meets the needs of all mankind who go before Him. Let your requests be made known, and receive the provision of peace, understanding, and tranquility. Rest assured that God will provide. God’s provision, therefore, requires our delight in Him. The songwriter said, ‘…and He walks with me, and He talks with me, and He tells me I am His own, and the joy we share as we tarry there, none other has ever known….’
Yes, we receive joy from God through our relationship with Him. He desires that we have sweet fellowship with Him.
Prayer
Father, thank You for allowing us to bring our desires before You. You have made it possible through the giving of Your Son, Jesus Christ, Your first provision to us, which enabled us to have that communion with You restored.
Help us to delight ourselves in Your ways and receive all the blessings and goodness You have in store for us. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
