God’s Faithfulness

“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me.” – Exodus 20:2-3 (NKJV)

God spoke these words to the children of Israel after they had been led out of Egypt by Moses, the servant of the Lord. They had lived in Egypt a long time and had adopted their practices which contravened God’s laws. They worshipped idols like the Egyptians and made sacrifices to them. Their children likewise and the generations that followed were under the curse of slavery. But God heard their cry and brought deliverance by the hand of Moses.

Some adversities such as sickness, divorce, incarceration and such like, can plague families for several generations until at least one believing son or daughter takes a stand for righteousness, denounces that evil, and prays against it, breaking its hold on the family. Some of these curses can become demonic strongholds that are not easily shaken but fervent and persistent prayer coupled with fasting can bring deliverance or healing.

God hears prayers, and when we constantly come to Him with our prayers and petitions and seek to live in obedience to His will, He sends the answers we need. Jesus recounted the parable of the unjust judge and the widow who was persistent with her plea for help. The unjust judge said, “…I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.” – Luke 18:5 (NKJV). Jesus said, “And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him…?.” (v7). Unlike the unjust judge who cared more for his own peace of mind than the widow’s plight, our God loves and cares for our well-being.

What generational curses have been plaguing your family life? How have you dealt with it? Just like Moses did to the children of Israel, we need to repeatedly remind ourselves and others around us of God’s faithfulness. Let us recall past victories over difficult situations and so encourage ourselves in the Lord knowing that He is the same God, yesterday, today, and forever.

Prayer

Lord, we thank You because You are aware of our failings and still You pursue us with Your steadfast love. Thank You for hearing us when we cry out in distress and not rewarding us according to our iniquities. Give us the strength we need to break the strongholds of sin that have plagued our families for generations and to walk in victory. Yes lord, remember that we are dust but your righteousness is to generations still to come, in Jesus’s name, Amen.
