When God created the institution called Marriage, He presented a formula that dictates the composition of the nuclear family: husband, wife, and child/children. God never intended for a substitute or alternative formula to be instituted and replace His original design.
In today’s world, there are many dysfunctional family types, such as single-parent families, cohabitation – comprising of an unmarried man and an unmarried woman living together with children, and gay marriages – consisting of an unnatural union between two men and an unnatural union between two women.
Comparatively, the nuclear family formula created by God is the best arrangement, yielding many advantages. Financial stability also allows them to provide additional extracurricular opportunities that allow children to flourish socially and develop a higher confidence level. A two-parent (male-female) household is more likely to have a higher consistency with raising their children by reaching agreements on discipline and modelling appropriate behaviour.
Moreover, nuclear families tend to establish stronger bonds as they work together and rely on one another to overcome challenges. Children witness their parents’ supportive and loving relationship, which helps them learn how to interact appropriately. This type of family tends to be more resilient when faced with obstacles as they learn to problem-solve together and support each other emotionally.
In God’s familial structure, the husband is ordained to be the Priest of the home (1 Timothy 3:1-16). The job description of the role of the Priest is to pray for his wife and children and be a teacher of God’s Word, instructing the children of the Lord’s way, ensuring that he brings them up in the fear and admonition of God. The Priest is also expected to implement good family values based on the foundation of the Word of God. Thus, husbands are ultimately responsible for the good management of their families, including shouldering the responsibilities of providing for and protecting their family in a loving, nurturing, and disciplined manner while raising and caring for their children.
Men, as designated heads of the home, let us abide by the Family Formula of God so that the blessings of God can fall upon our households. Amen!
