God’s Got An Army

An Assemblies of God, Guyana Sunday School Department Story

I believe God loves armies. The requirements of a disciplined soldier attract God. A soldier must subject himself to training, obey commands, even when they may be difficult, and report for duty at all times. These requirements suit God’s idea of a people fit to be enlisted by the Commander-in-Chief. God’s got an army. Would you be a soldier in the Army of the Lord? If you have that desire, full armour is available for you.

The contingent of pastors, teachers, and workers from the Assemblies of God National Sunday School Department has been in a dormant mode since 2018. It was as if a giant had gone to sleep. Our God, in Whose heart children find a special place, sent an angel like He did when Peter was asleep in jail (Acts 12) on a special mission. Praise God, the giant was aroused by the angel. God’s assignment to feed the lambs had to be fulfilled. The army that once was in motion called on all its resources and assumed and prepared to march again.

It was on Saturday, October 14, 2023, that Kingdom soldiers emerged from the three counties of Guyana (Essequibo, Demerara, and Berbice) to form a great army displaying eleven colours of T-shirts for identification and got once again into battle formation. The day was one with beautiful weather, and God’s favour was evident as He provided a ‘cloud-cover’ environment that offered a cool atmosphere. The theme chosen for the March/ Rally was ‘Called and Chosen to do Great things for God’.

A beautiful mix of children and adults formed the army. There was order and cooperation as we marched with a display of banners and placards depicting messages of God’s love, care, hope, and His call to ‘Come unto Me’. The biblical order was in place as the dancers, emanating from First Assembly of God Wortmanville and its Outstations (FAOGW), led the way. The music provided also gave those in attendance the help needed to concentrate on God and showcase His peace and joy that He allows to permeate our lives in spite of all the challenges that we face. It was surely a time of Praise and Worship from the Square of the Revolution to the National Park in the capital city of Georgetown.

Our presence at the Park afforded us to be blessed by items of songs, dances, a message from a puppet, and children in costumes representing different leadership positions in our country, sharing important messages. Greetings were received from the National Sunday School Director, Reverend Ravindra Sookraj, and the Advisor, Bishop Ronald Surujubally.

It was indeed like a breath of fresh air and the smell of fresh bread. The hundreds who were present did receive hope, strength, and the desire to accelerate the true purpose of the Sunday School Department and be a part of moulding the lives of children and youth to live purpose-driven lives. October 14, 2023, should find a place in the history of service given by God’s Army.
