Grace in Bloom: The Gentle Work of Joy

“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials.” – James 1:2 (NKJV)

In life, there are many times when our experiences cause us pain, stress, disappointment, and hopelessness. But I have come to realise that our experiences must never define who we are, for our entire identity is found in Christ Jesus alone.

I remember in my early years, my life’s experiences were overwhelming, but I received encouragement from the above Scripture, when a fellow believer shared it with me. As I pondered it, God caused the sadness in my heart to be replaced with His joy. My faith in God grew, and with baby steps, I learnt to trust my Saviour by faith.

Our trials are never meant to break us but rather to build us into the vessel of strength and purpose so that, as agents of change, our Heavenly Father can be glorified.

To my little brothers and sisters in Christ, your lives are not decided by what your peers believe. It has been determined before you were born, according to Jeremiah 1:5 (NIV). It says, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,  before you were born I set you apart…”. Jesus has set you apart, so stop trying to fit in and stand out for Him. For God is creating in you a better story in character, so, if it’s your smile, a word of encouragement, or a thoughtful work of kindness, today, bring joy to someone’s life by sharing the goodness of God.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, today I surrender all to You. I am available, use me for your glory, I pray. Amen.
