Growing In Christ – Part 2

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

 2 Timothy 3:16 (NIV)

Beloved in order for believers to grow in Christ we need to habitually pray and read the Holy Bible on a daily basis. The author Jamie Buckingham in his book, “Power For Living” stated that if prayer is our lifeline to God, then the Bible is the bread basket. Mr. Buckingham posited that one of the ways for us to achieve our growth potential is through daily Bible reading, failing which we will never grow beyond spiritual infancy.

The author declares that in order for God to sanctify us and make us holy, He (God) has to bring us in regular contact with His Word. As we digest His Word it goes into our spiritual cells and we become filled with the Word of God. Brethren, it is the unadulterated Word of God that will help us not to sin against Him (Psalm 119:11).

The Scripture in 2 Timothy 3:16 reveals that the Bible is the standard for making decisions and forming opinions in every area of life. In order to climb out of the valley of spiritual infancy to the magnificent mountains of spiritual maturity, there must be growth.

The acrostic of the word G.R.O.W.T.H, as cited by the author is as follows:

  1. G – Go to God in prayer daily (John.15:7
  2. R – Read God’s Word daily (Acts 17:11)
  3. O – Obey God moment by moment (John.14:21)
  4. W – Witness for Christ by your life and words (Matthew 4:19)
  5. T – Trust God for every detail of your life (1 Peter 5:7)
  6. H – Holy Spirit – allow God’s Holy Spirit to control and empower your daily life (Galatians 5:16) (Acts 1:8)

 PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I come before You in the name of Jesus diligently seeking to experience spiritual growth in Christ Jesus. I confess that I receive the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him. Open the eyes of my understanding and enlighten me in order that I may know the hope for which You have called me. I declare that I am not conformed to this world but am transformed by the renewing of my mind. My mind is renewed by the Word of God. Thank You, Jesus. Amen.
