Here I am, Lord

“When thou saidst, ‘Seek ye My face, my heart said unto Thee, Thy face Lord, will I seek.” – Psalm 27:8 (NKJV)

We all know the familiar song of invitation to accept the Lord Jesus as our personal Saviour, which tells us, “Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling, calling for you and for me ….” This is a call of love and grace. Still, there are other calls that we get from the Lord. There is a call to service, a call of separation or sanctification, a call to give account of our actions or stewardship, a call to repentance, a call to go higher in Him and our final call to rest in Paradise with Him.

The prophet Samuel was called to service even as a child. His mother, Hannah, prayed earnestly to the Lord for him and then dedicated him to the Lord’s service. The Lord called Samuel, and Samuel answered the call, becoming a great prophet of God.

Abraham answered God’s call to separate himself from his people of Ur of the Chaldeans and become the father of nations (Genesis 12:1-5). He also answered when God called to him to sacrifice his only son, Isaac. He was about to do so out of love and obedience to God, but God stopped him (Genesis 22:10-12).

After they had sinned, God called Adam and Eve to give an account of their actions. They each blamed someone else and lost their place in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3). Cain, their son, was also called to give an account of his brother whom he had murdered. He refused to repent and was marked for life (Genesis 4:1-16).

Beloved, we are all called to repentance. Each time we fall short (and we all do), we need to repent so that our calling is made sure. We are all called to go higher in the Lord. As we mature in the Lord, we are blessed with various spiritual gifts and ministries, enabling us to blend into a beautiful whole and fulfil the work of Christ.

The final call we will answer from the Lord depends on how we serve while here on earth. We do not have to worry about our service as long as we serve in love.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, our hearts are grateful and open to Your call. Grant us Father, that we hear and obey when You call, whether in repentance, dedication, service or love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
