One of the portions of Scripture that I have lived to see bear fruit in my life is found in Matthew 23:11-12, “The greatest among you will be your servant. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” (NIV).
Humility is every believer’s business. God’s Word admonishes us to humble ourselves by submitting one to another (1 Peter 5:5-6), and this can be demonstrated by our willingness to esteem each other better than ourselves (Philippians 2:3) and to serve one another.
Admittedly, some people are mistaken about the meaning of humility and erroneously link humility/meekness to weakness and to degrading one’s stature. C.S Lewis said, “Humility is not thinking less of yourself; it’s thinking of yourself less.”
For the wise person, humility is a sure way for God to intervene on your behalf. God promises that He will exalt the humble in due season, and I have come to learn and to love when God exalts you since no man can undo God’s work, nor can anyone outdo God’s exaltation.
Today is a great day to introspect and see if there are areas in our lives where humility is absent, where pride is present, where there is a need for more grace, and where there is room to serve others in love. Once we locate any area in need of a dose of humility, let us repent, transform our thinking, and immediately get to work on making the necessary changes to our lives.
