In the Beginning

And the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone” Gen. 2:18.

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. He put man on the earth to cultivate it but man was without human companionship. We do not know for sure how long man was alone but we do know that at some point God said it was not a good thing. After taking the time to create the heavens and the earth, the day and the night, the sea and the dry land, and pronouncing them good, here our Creator says that something was not good. He set about making it good, “I will make an help meet for him” (Gen. 2:18 – KJV). We realize from the beginning that God was interested in promoting family life when He said “Be fruitful and multiply…” (Gen.1:28 – KJV)

Family fulfils a vital function in society. They propagate the species, ensuring their survival and posterity; they take care of each other and their offspring. They teach, instruct and protect. God places high value on families and so should we. The Word of God says in Ps.68: 6 ” He sets the solitary in families.” (NKJV)

We have a responsibility to promote strong family ties through caring, supporting, encouraging, and praying for them, more so when difficulties arise. Family members must be assured that they can count on each other in good times and bad.

Nations are stronger when families are strong. Let us take time to mention to God each member of our family and families across our nations. We can be assured of a better world with fewer conflicts if we learn how to value family.

Prayer:

Father, we lift families before you today and ask for a special blessing for them in Jesus’ name, Amen.
