‘And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority had been given to Me in heaven and on earth.” – Matthew 28:18 (NKJV)
Can you think of how many times you’ve thrown your hands up and said, “Jesus, take control”? We were all in situations where our first instinct was to cry out to Him.
In Matthew 28:18, Jesus told His disciples: “All authority is given unto Me in heaven and in earth.” With these words, He showed that He is in charge of everything. Jesus is not only a teacher or miracle worker – He is the risen Lord with full authority over all creation. Nothing in heaven or on earth is outside His control.
When life feels uncertain, we can rest knowing Jesus has the final word. His authority means He can open doors no one can shut, calm storms we cannot handle, and bring victory where we see defeat.
Think about that moment when the disciples had seen Jesus suffer, die, and rise again. Now He stood before them, alive and victorious, declaring that all authority belongs to Him. Clearly, He rules over both heaven and earth.
It’s incredible to realise that the same Jesus Who healed the sick and taught in parables rules over everything. That truth comforts us because our struggles, doubts, and problems are under His control. But it also challenges us – because it calls us to trust Him fully and follow His lead. If we accept this challenge, we will experience His power in our lives.
So trust Him daily, knowing He is Lord over every situation. It’s not about our strength, but His power working through us. When we surrender our plans, fears, and struggles to Him, we acknowledge that He is in charge and we are safe in His hands.
When Jesus says He has power in heaven and on earth, it means nothing is beyond His reach – not the universe, not our daily lives. He invites us to bring our burdens to Him, confident that He is Lord over everything.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You that all power in heaven and on earth belongs to You. Help me to trust You with every part of my life. Remind me that You are in control when I feel weak or uncertain. Teach me to surrender my plans and follow Your lead each day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
