Jesus, He Forgave Our Sins at the Cross of Calvary

Jesus, He Forgave our sins at the Cross of Calvary

Luke 23:34 – (NIV)

“Jesus said, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they are doing. And they divided up His clothes by casting lots” – Luke 23:34 – (NIV)

The forgiveness of sins is sacrosanct for the salvation of lost souls. Jesus forgave His disciples: Judas who betrayed Him for 30 pieces of silver, Peter who three (3) times denied knowing Him, and Thomas who doubted His resurrection. He also forgave the crowd who shouted ‘Hosanna’ and with the same breath shouted ‘Crucify Him.’ The people who spat upon Him, mocked Him, whipped Him, thrust a crown of thorns upon His head, nailed Him to the cross, and pierced His side were all forgiven. Likewise, we are also called to forgive our transgressors (Matthew 6:12-14) in order to be that example that would draw others to the kingdom.

On the cross, Jesus took our sins away, giving us access to eternal life and making us free moral agents. Dereck Prince in his book “BLESSING OR CURSE: You Can Choose”, stated that, “the evil due to us came upon Jesus so that, in return, the good due to Jesus might be offered to us.  God is able to offer this to us without compromising His own eternal Justice. Jesus endured on our behalf all the just punishment for our iniquities.” By His sacrificial, substitutionary death, Jesus made atonement for the sin of the whole human race. Beloved, God loves you no matter who you are, no matter your past (Psalm 103:12). If you would like to receive Jesus in your life, pray the following prayer out loud and mean it from your heart.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I come to You admitting that I am a sinner in need of a Saviour. Right now, I choose to turn away from sin and I ask You to cleanse me of all unrighteousness. I believe Your Son, Jesus, died on the cross to take away my sins. I also believe that He rose from the dead so that I may be forgiven of my sins and made righteous through faith in Him. I call upon the name of Jesus Christ and confess Him to be the Saviour and Lord of my life.

Jesus, I choose to follow You and ask that You fill me with Your Holy Spirit. I declare right now that I am a child of God. I am free from sin and filled with the righteousness of God. I am saved in Jesus’ name. Amen (Acts 2:38).
