“But prove yourselves doers of the Word [actively and continually obeying God’s precepts]…” – James 1:22 (AMP)
Keeping our hearts clean requires surrendering all to our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
When we surrender our sins, struggles, unforgiveness, and unhealthy desires to Him, we make room for His peace, love, and righteousness to work within us. Put away strife, bitterness, adultery, lying, and every spirit that draws us away from Him. Instead, let us put on the whole armour of God and stand firm in faith, without fear or trembling, trusting in His strength.
How, then, do we guard our hearts to achieve this?
Matthew 5:8 (AMP) declares, “Blessed [anticipating God’s presence, spiritually mature] are the pure in heart [those with integrity, moral courage, and godly character], for they will see God.” A pure heart is cultivated through prayer, repentance, obedience, forgiveness, and daily meditation on God’s Word. We must continually ask the Holy Spirit to examine our hearts, guide our thoughts, and help us walk in holiness.
Romans 13:10 reminds us that love does no harm to a neighbour; therefore, love fulfills the law. When we allow God’s love to fill our hearts, we become more willing to forgive, speak the truth, show compassion, and treat others with grace.
As we journey in this life, let us make a conscious decision to keep our hearts clean before the Lord. Let us forgive those who have hurt us, repent of our sins, turn away from wrongdoing, and surrender every burden to Jesus. Let our hearts be filled with His love, our mouths speak His truth, and our lives reflect His goodness.
Remember: God is not merely interested in changing our outward appearance; He desires to transform us from within.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I come before You today with a humble heart. Create in me a clean heart and renew a right and steadfast spirit within me. Purify my thoughts, cleanse my motives, and remove anything within me that is not pleasing to You. Help me to forgive those who have hurt me. Help me to turn away from every form of wickedness. Thank You for Your mercy, Your grace, and Your patience with me. Teach me to guard my heart, meditate on Your Word, and walk in love, truth, and righteousness. Holy Spirit, guide my thoughts, words, and actions so that my life will bring glory to Your holy name. I surrender all to You now. Make me a vessel fit for Your purpose, in Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
