Letting Go and Holding On

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

James 4:7 (ESV)

Surrender doesn’t mean giving up; it means letting go of control and releasing the need to dictate every detail. It’s about acknowledging that God is there every step of the way and that His guiding hand is worthy of our trust.

Obedience doesn’t mean blind compliance; it means acting with faith and aligning our actions with our beliefs. It’s about recognising God’s wisdom to a higher purpose and choosing to walk that path. Think of a child learning to walk. They stumble and fall but keep trying, holding onto their parent’s hand for support and guidance. In the same way, surrendering to God doesn’t mean losing our ability to choose; it means embracing the support and wisdom that guides us toward a better version of ourselves.

This should lead you to reflect  on the following:

  • What areas of your life are you holding on to too tightly?
  • Is there a fear or doubt preventing you from surrendering to a higher power?
  • What does obedience look like in your daily life?
  • How can you align your actions with your values and beliefs?

Remember, surrender, and obedience are not about weakness but about strength. They are about letting go of what no longer serves us and embracing the growth and fulfilment that comes from walking a path guided by love, faith, and purpose.

Prayer

Dear God, grant me the courage to surrender my anxieties and fears. Open my heart to Your guidance and wisdom. Help me find the strength to act with obedience, aligning my actions with Your will. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
