Life Should be Celebrated!

This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it – Psalm 118:24 (NKJV)

This week marks the beginning of the celebration of the 52nd Cooperative Republic of Guyana week. What a superb week it will be, filled with calypso, soca, and chutney competitions; colourfully decorated buildings; exquisite floats and parades, and oodles of celebration across this beautiful country. Even better, this week reminds me that God has graciously been good to Guyana and its people, so we should celebrate His goodness.

With great pride, I am proud to be a Guyanese living in unity with such rich diversity. It reminds me that God hand-picked each of us to change the world with our presence. God does nothing by chance and does not make mistakes. He knitted each one of us together in our mother’s womb – Psalm 139:13. Let’s celebrate life this week.

Our birth in this dear land was chosen on purpose, according to His Will. Let’s just think about that for a moment. Wow! God found us worthy of creation. We have a purpose, and that alone is worthy of celebration.

We are fearfully and wonderfully made in His image – Psalm 139:14. This is cause for true celebration. Imagine God’s own Word says that “of His own Will He brought us forth by the Word of Truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures”.  Another version says “…we, out of all creation, became His prized possession” – James 1:18. Incredible, we are God’s most prized possessions. Our value does not diminish. Our country’s value does not diminish at age 52.  The truth is we do not need February 23rd to celebrate the country where we were born. However, Republic Day rekindles that spark of jubilation and reminds us that each day holds endless possibilities for celebration. We need only to remember that every day is worth celebrating, once we’re alive.

PRAYER:

Lord, thank You for the gift of life. Thank You for being born in Guyana. May we see the true miracle You have given us, and may the reverence never fade. You Lord, and all You create, are always worthy of celebration. In Jesus’s name, amen.
