Lost and Found – Part 1

It was right that we should make merry and be glad – Luke 15:32 (NKJV)

The account in Luke 15 is well-known. The young man (called the Prodigal son) violated all the community and family culture when he left home. His life went downhill until he was homeless, hungry and without friends. When he realized that he was far away from home and the comfort of his father’s love and protection, he decided to return home.

Meanwhile, his father was looking out for him every day. When he was close to home his father recognised him, ran, hugged and kissed him. He told his servants to bring the best robe, put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. Then a fatted calf was ordered to be killed so that all could eat and be merry (v 22-24).

Romans 8:38-39 says it all. God’s unmerited Love is always available. Do we celebrate as we should when a lost brother or sister returns to the Kingdom? Or do we find it easier to be judgemental? Let’s be intentional in our acceptance and celebration of such an event, for nothing can separate us from the love of God.
