“…Jesus saw His mother…and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.” – John 19:26-27 (NIV)
In Galatians 5:22-23, we see that the manifestations of the fruit of the Spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
In every aspect of a mother’s life, we see the demonstration of these qualities. She bears her offspring with joy, passing onto that fetus love, and with patience brings forth the newborn.
In raising the family, a mother demonstrates commitment, which shows faithfulness.
In caring for the family, we see gentleness, self-control, and kindness.
Mothers also radiate peace, that calm assurance that helps provide for and settle the family.
The goodness of our mothers is beyond compare, as we refer to the account in 1 Kings 3:26 – the real mother, her heart full of love for her son, said to the king, “Please, Your Majesty, don’t kill the child! Give it to her!”
Yes, young mothers, these qualities are inherent. Just allow them to burst forth, bring joy and happiness to your family, and mature mothers, ‘bask in the joy of your giving’.
Prayer
Loving Father, we thank You for the inherent qualities of a mother. Help us to express these qualities every day of our lives so that we can raise families and make this world a better place. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
