Our Comforter, Friend and Helper

“…you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans…” – John 14:17-18 (NKJV)

In times of doubt, sickness, or trouble, we all look to our families and friends for comfort. Many times they fail us for various reasons. Sometimes, they live far away and can’t get to us fast enough, sometimes, they have their own troubles, or sometimes they just can’t be bothered.

However, the Comforter – the Holy Spirit – always helps us, He never fails. He provides strength and reassurance to believers in times of need. We can call upon Him any time of the day or night regardless of where we are. Even when we cannot open our mouths to call, our spirit can call out to Him, and He will hear and answer. He is a true friend.

True friends are those who offer you support, improve your quality of life, promote self-confidence, provide honesty and unconditional love, and help you progress mentally. It often takes time and effort to foster deep, healthy friendships. Proverbs 17:17 says, “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

The Holy Spirit is the only guaranteed help in times of adversity, and He’s available 24 hours daily. He’s the best friend every born-again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ will ever have on this earth. He came to live with us and guide us into all truth (John 16:13). He also convicts us of sin and helps us mature spiritually (John 16:8).

The Holy Spirit works in the world to convince and convict unbelievers of sin, thereby drawing them to Christ and helping them realise how desperately they need the True Saviour. Let us therefore give God thanks and praise for sending His only son Jesus, who gave His life for us and Who, in turn, prayed that God send the Holy Spirit to comfort and help us and be our friend.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we come giving You thanks and praise. You alone are worthy to be praised. Blessed be Your Holy name. We thank You, Father, for sending Your only son Jesus who died on Calvary’s Cross. We thank You for the Holy Spirit who now lives in every believer leading us, guiding us into all truth, and leading us in the way everlasting. We pray, Holy Spirit, that You will fill us afresh and equip us to do Your will, in the Mighty name of Jesus; Amen.
