Our Comforter is Here!
John 14:26 (KJV)
“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance…” – John 14:26 (KJV)
When I think of Comforter, the old CeCe Winans’ song comes to mind:
“Faithful Friend and Father, I’ve called You through the years
You’ve been Great Physician when sickness lingered near
Through distressing moments Your name is new and sweet
You’ve become Comforter to me…”
In life, we experience many challenges. People change, seasons change, relationships change, and even our expectations change. Friends who were once close and dear to us gradually drift away. Circumstances that were once pleasurable become troubling. With all the changes life has to offer, we discover that very few people were built to go through every season with us, and surely, there are times we end up feeling very lonely.
When I consider it all, the Word of God resonates in my heart: “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). This is certainly who Jesus is: unchanging, constant, consistent, even through life’s changes. Jesus was faithful in the past, so we can be confident that He will be faithful today, tomorrow, and forever! Hallelujah!
Even more, having walked the same road we’re walking and faced the same life we’re living, He is acquainted with what life has to offer. He understood the challenges of life and how lonely the road can get. This is why Jesus promised: “I will not leave you comfortless” (John 14:18 – KJV). Jesus understood the need for a Comforter then, and because He is unchanging, He still understands the need for a Comforter today and will forever understand.
Jesus assured us that God the Father will give us another Comforter, The Holy Ghost, Who will be with us forever (John 14:16)! Let us not worry then about the many challenges life offers, for He also says to us, “Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27).
Let us hold tightly to the Word of God. Our Comforter, The Holy Ghost, Whom Jesus asked God the Father to send for us, is here! Let us rest in the Comforter’s care, knowing that He will be with us forever!
The CeCe Winans’ song continues:
“You are Comforter, that’s who You are to me
Comforter, a name that fits so perfectly
Peace that passes all understanding
Comforter is who You are to me…”
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I thank You for giving us the Holy Ghost, our Comforter, Who will be with us forever. Help us to rest in His care and receive His comfort all the days of our lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
