Our Keeper, Counsellor and Friend

“I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever” – John 14:16 (NKJV)

The Holy Spirit is our Keeper, Comforter, Counselor, Helper, and Friend.

Today in our world, we are surrounded by death and destruction on a daily basis. There are daily reports of one disaster after another. Recently (September 2023), the world was fed with news of an earthquake in Morocco where thousands of people died, and many others missing, feared dead or buried beneath the massive rubble.

In Guyana, we are bombarded with the constant news of deaths on our roads, fires, murders, rape, and people losing their minds, buckling to the pressures of life. One has to make a conscious effort to guard one’s mental health because it’s as if doomsday is here, and it’s getting worse. This is the environment we are living in all around the world today.

How are families coping with this seemingly endless season of distress and disaster? There is only One person who can help people endure these trying times. That person is the Holy Spirit. Jesus, at the point of His ascension to His Father, promised to send a Helper (John 14:26) – the fulfillment of the prophecy from Joel 2:28. That Helper is the Holy Spirit, He is the only One that can see us through these trying times. He will strengthen you, thus enabling you to withstand your difficult seasons. It is during our weakness that God’s power is made strong (2 Corinthians 12:9). When we receive the Holy Spirit, we are given power (Acts 1:8). Hence our ability to endure, being empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Friends, the Holy Spirit is available right now. He is ready and waiting to help us all (Mark 13:11). Today, invite Him to come and live in your heart, and watch  Him help you to endure and overcome all the difficulties in your life. He is real. He is my Helper in all that I do. I can testify about His goodness because He has helped me to overcome so many difficulties in my life, including the death of my sister and father, who died one month apart. I had no idea how to deal with this loss, but the Holy Spirit saw me through. He is an awesome Comforter. Try Him for yourself today and see how He makes your life worth living.
