Our Lord is Good! – Part 2

Your father’s blessings are greater than the blessings of the ancient mountains…”

Genesis 49:26 (NIV)

The blessings of God are not fleeting; they are our constant companions on the journey of life. His blessings are not limited to moments of abundance but also manifest in times of trials and tribulations. This paradox is beautifully illustrated in 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV), where the apostle Paul recounts God’s words to him: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” In our moments of weakness and vulnerability, we can experience God’s blessings in the form of His sustaining grace.

We may find ourselves questioning God’s goodness during challenging times, wondering why we face adversity if He is truly good. However, it is in these trials that we often receive the most profound blessings. It is during these times that we draw closer to God, deepen our faith, and witness His power at work in our lives.

In our pursuit of blessings, it’s crucial to remember that God’s blessings aren’t primarily about the material or the temporal. They are spiritual gifts that transcend the physical realm, carrying eternal significance. These blessings enable us to experience the fullness of life as children of God. As we seek God’s blessings, we must also consider the motives behind our requests.

The Bible cautions against selfish and greedy desires in James 4:3: “When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.” Our requests for blessings should align with God’s will and be rooted in a desire to serve Him and others.

In our journey of faith, we should remember that blessings are not guaranteed to be delivered on our preferred timeline. God’s timing often differs from ours, and His plan for our lives may involve seasons of waiting and refinement. During these times, we can take comfort in knowing that God is preparing us to receive His blessings in a way that will ultimately glorify Him and serve our highest good. It is essential to recognise that blessings are not exclusively for our benefit. They empower us to be a blessing to others.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the blessings that flow from Your goodness. Help us to taste and see that You are good, to experience the depth of Your love, and to be conduits of Your blessings to those around us. Grant us the wisdom to seek Your blessings with pure motives and the patience to trust in Your timing. In our moments of weakness, may we find strength in Your grace, and in times of abundance, may we use our blessings to bring glory to Your name. We pray this in the name of Jesus, our ultimate and eternal Blesser, Amen.

Amen: Proverbs 10:6; Ephesians 1:3
