Peace of Mind in the Storm

“Peace I leave with you, My peace, I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” – John 14:27 (KJV)

The believer has peace that the world can’t give, and significantly, the world can’t take it away, unless we allow it. According to John 14:27, Jesus promises a unique, lasting peace, urging believers not to be troubled or afraid. Do you believe? Lord, thank You for Your peace which surpasses all understanding. Keep my heart and mind in You.

In today’s society, some people worry and stress about everything. As believers, we know Jesus, yet at times do not trust Him or His Word during our storms. In storms such as rejection, animosity, envy, bitterness, and even anger, and sickness, let’s just remember,  God is our peace. He has already given it to us.

Jesus and His disciples were crossing the sea of Galilee in a boat when a sudden, violent storm arose. Amidst the panic, they called out to Him. According to Mark 4:39, He got up, rebuked the wind, and said to the waves, “Peace, be still.” The wind immediately died down, and was completely calm.

That’s the God we’re talking about today, will be talking about tomorrow, and always. His powerful words can turn around any situation – it has power. In the same way, the storms of our lives can become calm, and peace of mind, which is very precious to all of us, can be achieved.

The songwriter says, “In the midst of my storm, you held and protected me. If I just keep my mind on thee, you’ll keep me in perfect peace.” 1st Peter 5:7 advises casting all our anxiety on God and trusting in His care, while Psalm 4:8 offers assurance of safety and peaceful sleep through God’s protection. This is how we achieve peace.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, how I adore You. Help me to follow the guidance Your peace brings to me. May You continue to give me peace like a river. Lord, I know once I obey Your Word, I will have peace with You. Thank You, Father, for I know this peace surpasses all understanding. Be blessed, Lord, in the name of Jesus, Amen.
