Bishop Dr Murtland Raphael Massiah C.C.H is a dynamic leader and pioneer whose ministry focuses on servant leadership. He is the Presiding Bishop of the First Assembly of God Church, Wortmanville, Georgetown, Guyana – one of the more thriving and rapidly expanding congregations in the Caribbean. His ministry is propelled by his vision to influence the nations of the world for Christ. 

Dr Massiah holds a Master’s Degree in Theology from Global University and a Doctorate in Transformational Leadership (DTL) from Bakke Graduate University.  His advanced degrees were built on the foundation of a  Bachelor’s in Business Management from the University of Guyana and a Bachelor’s in Bible and Theology from the Caribbean School of Theology. He is highly respected for his Kingdom Leadership Concepts and passionate mentorship.  This motivational preacher, teacher and instructor channels his experiences and academia to enhance his service both locally and internationally in religious and secular communities. 

He has pastored First Assembly for more than thirty years and served on the Executive Presbytery of the Assemblies of God Guyana for about two-thirds of his tenure. Dr Massiah served as General Secretary of AOG for twenty-plus years and currently serves as Assistant General Bishop. He is also the chairman of the distinguished Georgetown Minister’s Fellowship and vice chairman of the International Third World Leadership Association (ITWLA). In addition, he is the first Guyanese to serve as a Resident Coordinator and Faculty member of the Haggai Institute at Maui and Singapore.

In 2017 Bishop Dr M. Raphael Massiah was awarded the Cacique Crown of Honour (CCH) from the Government and people of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana. He is a former distinguished Chairman of Guyana Post Office Corporation and a member of the Caribbean Cabinet of Empowered 21. 

Contemporaneously, he is a faculty member of the Assemblies of God Bible Institute in Guyana and Chairman of Guyana Police Force Fallen Heroes Foundation Inc., an organisation designed to provide education and welfare support to the children of Police officers who died in the line of duty.

He shoulders the leadership of the ministry with the support of his wife of over forty-two years, Elder Hermonica Angela Massiah, and their family.

In addition to nurturing their own expanding family, Elder Massiah has also mentored numerous other youth and potential leaders. She has also influenced the birthing of at least two satellite churches. Elder Angela was inducted into the International Association of Ministers’ Wives & Ministers’ Widows Association (IAMWMWA) Hall of Honour after serving as the Past Continental President. She is the  Coordinator of the International School of Ministries (ISOM) diploma and degree programme within the local Assembly. 

An academic in her own right, Elder Massiah holds a Master of Arts degree from Global University, a Bachelor’s in Bible and Theology from the Caribbean School of Theology, and a Bachelor’s in Sociology from the University of Guyana.

Bishop Dr M. Raphael Massiah and Elder Hermonica Angela Massiah serve under a single vision: To present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all peoples of this land and influence this nation and the nations of the world for God. To be facilitators of unity among the brethren. To pioneer, train, develop and empower all peoples, especially children and youth, to live a purpose-driven life.
