Promises from the Book of Revelation – Living Water

“…He promises peace to His people, His faithful servants…” – Psalm 85:8 (NIV)

As we study the book of Revelation, let’s examine some of the promises found therein. There are at least seven promises in Revelation 22 given to us that confirm Jesus’ victory over satan, sin, and death. These are:

  1. Living water (v. 1, 22:17)
  2. The tree of life (v. 2)
  3. No more curse (v. 3)
  4. Seeing the face of God (v. 4)
  5. Light (v. 5)
  6. Reward and punishment (v. 12)
  7. Entrance into the New Jerusalem (v. 14)

These promises also assure us that all the effects of the Fall are reversed in Christ’s finished work and the salvation He has provided for us by grace through faith.

Promise No. 1, Living Water, Revelation 22:17(b)( NIV), “Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.”

Jesus said, “…If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, “out of his heart shall flow rivers of living water.” – John 7:37-38 (NKJV). All are exhorted to come to the waters to quench their thirst – Isaiah 55:1. Those who thirst for spiritual satisfaction and who continuously seek Jesus will find that He is the water of life, all we have to do is receive Him. Receiving Jesus is free of charge. His grace saves and satisfies the thirsting soul – Ephesians 2:8-9.

John 4:14 shares the account of the spiritually thirsty woman at Jacob’s well with Jesus, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (NIV). The water Jesus promises will become a permanent spring within us, keeping us satisfied, and leading to eternal life.

Obtaining eternal life is simple: put your trust in Christ for salvation. Everyone who puts their trust in Christ alone, as the Bible promises, as Jesus promises, has life eternal – John 3:16. Therefore, let us continue to seek Jesus, holding on to what we have received in Revelation 2:26, “To the one who is victorious and does My will to the end, I will give authority over the nations” (NIV).

Prayer

Dear Jesus, Your Word promises that whoever believes and receives You will have rivers of living water flowing from their heart. I pray for Your living water to flow in all its fullness through me today and every day. Let me overflow with

the fullness of Your peace, love, joy, and hope. Constantly renew me with fresh water. This I pray in Your mighty name. Amen.
