The Book of Esther speaks volumes of God’s divine protection over the lives of His people who were taken captives in a foreign land.
This young lady was mentored by her elder cousin Mordecai who took care of her in her formative years. She was taken to the palace at Shushan because Queen Vashti refused the king’s order and embarrassed him. Thus, she was not allowed to come before the king thereafter. Her royal position was taken away, and new royalty was sought.
Esther found favour in the eyes of Hegai, keeper of the women. When she appeared before the king, she was highly esteemed and loved more than all the other women because she had walked into her purpose by the grace of God. The royal crown was placed on her head, and Esther was confirmed as the new queen. She displayed high moral standards as the king’s consort and did what was asked of her.
Eventually, however, her people were about to be annihilated due to a conniving and wicked plan. Queen Esther was asked to intervene but was reluctant due to the king’s protocol. She was afraid. But upon seeing there was no other helper readily available, Esther decided to wait before God with three days of prayer and fasting and asked her people to do likewise – Esther 4:13-17.
At the end of the fast, Esther went before the king, seeking an audience with him – breaking all protocols. Friends, Esther’s request was granted, and the architect of the evil plot was eventually exposed and dealt with by the king (Esther 7). Esther put the cause of her people before her personal needs, and God delivered her and her people. Esther remained patriotic in time of her people’s needs. What an example!
