Pursue the Blessings and Resist the Curses

Pursue the Blessings and Resist the Curses

Deuteronomy 28: 1-2

“And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all His commandments…the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth: And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee….” Deuteronomy 28: 1-2

In the Old Testament, God spoke through men and women to the nation of Israel. Moses was one such person whom God spoke to and established a covenant with his chosen people – Deuteronomy 29. On the other hand, Deuteronomy 28 gives clear direction regarding blessings and curses. It points to the fact that both are a direct result of obedience or disobedience to God. In this time and in this hour, God wants us to covenant with Him so that He will do a new thing in our lives.

Deuteronomy 28:1-15 uses the words, “and it shall come to pass, if……”. The conjunction ‘if’ is used, which tells us that there is a connection between the choice and the outcome; one will directly affect the other.  Verses 1-14 speaks about obedience and blessings, while verses 15-68 speak to disobedience and curses. We see clearly that both affect generations to come. This tells us that we must choose wisely since we are responsible for the well-being of the generations that will come out from our loins.

Friends, God is a loving and caring Father who always desires the best for His children. He is beseeching us today to put our lives in His hands so we can attract the many blessings He has in store for us. He wants us to listen to His voice and keep his commandments so our lights will shine bright for the world to see. Beloved, what I just mentioned is the embellisher because there is more. In Deuteronomy 28:2, the Word of God assures us that the blessings will not only come upon us, but they will overtake us. There is always capacity for more, and this truth revealed here should serve as a catalyst for us to live obedient lives unto God.

Beloved, pursue the blessings and resist the curses.
