Putting The Enemy to Shame

“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies…” – Psalm 23:5 (NIV)

I can testify that no matter the circumstances, God is always there for me. He is steadfast in His love, His encouragement, His protection, His provision, and at the end of every trial, His promotion. Scripture reminds us, “For the Lord our God is He who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory” (Deuteronomy 20:4 ESV).

I remembered, as if it was yesterday, working at a government institution as a manager of a particular department. A senior manager at a meeting openly declared that he doesn’t like Christians. During the period of his tenure, he orchestrated a plan to get rid of me. He commenced a campaign of fault-finding of work submitted by staff, described them as being incompetent, and threatened their dismissals. Expletives were also used to address staff on some occasions.

Friends, I came under tremendous pressure as I was told an error was made in promoting me, and he will see that it was rectified. My authority was undermined with my supervisors being called to meetings without me attending, deployment of my staff on various projects without my knowledge or approval, and such like. These tactics resulted in a decrease in income projected, and of course, he attempted to blame me for his ill-conceived schemes.

Brethren, I know my Jesus. My intercessor colleagues and I were involved in deep spiritual warfare. During this battle, it was revealed by God through His servant that “the enemy may have position over me but no power over me”. What a revelation! A plan of action was revealed to me, and I executed same by the grace of God.

Beloved, my God is real. With time, the said senior manager’s leadership practices and skills were called into question by other senior officials of the organisation, and fearing dismissal, he tendered his resignation and left the job. Friends, this Christian young man continued serving diligently until my day of retirement. Hallelujah! To God be the glory; great things He has done.

God’s Word declares that “The wise shall inherit glory; But shame shall be the promotion of fools” (Proverbs 3:35 ASV). I can attest to its truth—glory to our Everlasting Father.
