Remember and Praise

Now I praise you, brethren, that you remember me in all things and keep the traditions just as I delivered them to you. 1 Corinthians 11:2 (NKJV)

Every year the majority of us, Christians and non-Christians alike celebrate Christmas. It is by far the most celebrated holiday internationally. Apart from that, every year the majority of us celebrate birthdays and anniversaries as well as other occasions. These celebrations are made even more special when it is someone else who is celebrating us. The euphoria of walking into a room to the shouts of surprise for your birthday or wedding anniversary brings us so much joy and an appreciation that we are loved. When this happens we appreciate the thought, the efforts, the value, and the joy of such a lovely moment.

Throughout the Old Testament Scriptures, God instituted seven festivals for the children of Israel to celebrate: The Passover, Unleavened Bread, First Fruits, Pentecost, Feast of Trumpet, Day of Atonement, Feast of Booths (Leviticus 23:4-32). Each of these feasts has its significance, but overall, they all point to God. These are not celebrations of events but of God Himself. The purpose is to remember and praise God. Psalm 9:2 says “I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, Oh most high”.

Today I call for us to do two things: remember Him and do not forget His grace, kindness, forgiveness, blessings, miracles, or love. As you reflect on Him, Praise Him! Not because you want something but because He is your God. Let us have a celebration just because God is good, let us make Him feel as special as He is, let us celebrate Him!
