Retreat and Surrender

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” – Psalm 46:1 (KJV)

We live in a world where we are witnessing wars, and we hear about rumours of wars. Individuals and nations are suffering. There is no discrimination as it relates to death. Innocent babies and children are dying, and the young and the old as well. People are pursuing their selfish desires at the expense of other human beings. And we oftentimes wonder what is the meaning of all of this devastation. There is trouble everywhere, and if we are not careful and cautious, we can lose our lives.

In the midst of all that is happening, we can say without a shadow of a doubt that “there is nothing new under the sun”; what is happening now happened before. Those generations who were before us were eyewitnesses to similar occurrences, but they survived and found hope in the midst of hopelessness, and thus the reason why we exist today – they were overcomers. They connected to the One who was and is a very present help in times of trouble.

Therefore, even though we are faced with many difficulties in this century, we should be cognisant of the fact that we are standing on the shoulders of those overcomers, therefore we must continue to build upon what they built, and we must add to and not diminish the generational blessings we are presently benefitting from. The only way we will be able to survive and be prosperous in order to fulfil our mandate on earth is by submitting our lives to God and accepting Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Saviour, for He is indeed our refuge and strength.

We are well aware that we live in a world where no one wants to surrender or retreat because it is seen as a sign of weakness, but surrendering to the Lord Jesus Christ is an act of courage. It is only when we have Jesus as our foundation we will understand how to be a blessing and how to leave generational blessings for those who are still to come.

Prayer

Lord, even though we live in troubling times and we do not understand many things, we know that Your Word says You are our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. So help us to stay connected to You and keep our focus on You so that we can be a blessing both now and in the future. Amen.
