“...neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.” – 2 Chronicle 20:12 (KJV)
In the above passage of Scripture, Jehoshaphat implored the Lord to save the people from enemies that seemed overwhelming. God replied to Jehoshaphat’s sincere and humble approach by advising him through an emissary of what action to take, never mind its seemingly bizarre nature.
Friends, in our service to one another and to God, He desires that we be sincere. Although Jehoshaphat did not know the answer, he was aware that there is someone greater than him who consistently prevails, no matter the situation. James 4:6 (NKJV) says, “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” Let’s draw nigh to Him and humble ourselves in His sight, and He will lift us up, as He did with Jehoshaphat.
We ought to serve the Lord in spirit and in truth and watch Him transform our lives from darkness into His marvelous light. Humility and service are the heart of God. Those two characters stand out from Genesis to Revelation in all God has taught us. Keep your eyes on the Lord Jesus Christ and watch Him move mightily in your life, for in Him we move and have our being (Acts 17:28).
Testimony: Life may be quite painful. Coming from a background where my parents did not truly know Jesus, I did not know how life would work out when I made the decision to serve the Lord, but I did know that things would get better. I served the Lord (and still continue to do so), looking at how Nehemiah built back the wall of Jerusalem with hardship, keeping my eyes on Jesus, and knowing that my family and I have experienced upward mobility. I sat at God’s feet in humility. He did not fail, and what He has done for us, He can do for you.
Deuteronomy 6:13 (NKJV) admonishes us to “…fear the Lord your God and serve Him…”. This should be our humble service.
