“…Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” – Acts 3:6 (NIV)
There, at the temple gate called Beautiful, was a man who had been crippled all his life. Every day, he was carried to this gate to beg. He would ask for alms from the people going into the temple.
One day, he saw Peter and John entering the temple and asked them for money. They stopped and commanded him, saying, “…Look at us!” (Acts 3:4). The man looked at them; he thought they would give him something. Peter then said, “…Silver or gold, I do not have, but what I do have I give…” (V 6).
Sometimes, we ask expecting one outcome or the outcome we have become accustomed to over the years, not anticipating that we can receive even more by the power of Jesus Christ.
The beggar at the gate called Beautiful had accepted his lot in life and expected to be given alms all his life. God had a different plan; a plan for him to be independent, strong, and useful in His kingdom. He was commanded to stand up and “Walk” in the name of Jesus!
Immediately, the man’s faith was ignited, and his spirit came alive. Peter took him by his right hand and helped him up. He began walking, jumping, and praising the Lord all the way into the temple.
Peter had given the beggar what he had and not what he expected – the power of Jesus. The power of Jesus brings transformation and joy. The crippled beggar began showing everyone how God had healed him by praising and glorifying Him. They were all filled with amazement.
Brethren, if you are faced with a challenging situation, know that the Lord God can bring you out with a mighty hand. Look to Jesus and live. Praise Him!
