Stepping Stones To Freedom

Hebrews 7:25 – Consequently, He is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. (ESV)

The story is told about a farmer’s donkey that fell into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do to help. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway and it just wasn’t worth it to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all of his neighbors to come over and help him. Each grabbed a shovel and began shovelling dirt into the well. As the donkey realized what was happening, he began crying horribly. Then, to everyone’s amazement, he quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit the donkey’s back, he was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer’s neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off!

Life can be designed to throw all kinds of dirt on us, all kinds of challenges. The solution to getting out of the well is JESUS, He is our Deliverer. He will give us the wisdom and power to shake it off and use it as a ladder to step up and out. Each of our troubles is a stepping stone to a better place. We can get out of the deepest wells just by drawing near to God through Christ our Deliverer, never stopping, never giving up! Shake it off, and take a step up today!
