Take the Leap

“…I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.” – 1 Kings 17:9 (NKJV)

No! It is not over. Jeovah Jireh, our provider, wants to meet all our needs today.  Actually, He has already provided, just take the leap.

In the Bible, we are told of the widow of Zarephath. God sent Elijah, the prophet, to Zarephath, a town outside of Israel, to find a widow who would feed him. This woman was gathering sticks so that she could prepare her “last meal” when Elijah found her at the gate and asked her for water and bread.

As far as this woman knew, she had nothing to give the man of God. The cares of life weighed her down. The situation was depressing. All she had was a little oil and some flour left to prepare for herself and her son.  Can you imagine how this mother must have felt, not being able to provide food for her child? She was about to prepare that last meal for them to eat and die because she had nothing left, but now the man of God asked her to bake him a cake first!

But God! Jehovah sees and knows right where we are; He sent Elijah to her.  He is concerned about everything that concerns us. All he wants us to do is believe in Him, trust in Him, and hope in Him. The widow of Zarephath was at the stage of giving up, but here comes God in her time of need, the on-time God.  Elijah met her as she and her son were going to eat and die (1 Kings 17:12), but a miracle was actually right around the corner.  May we not give up on the brink of our miracle. The Zarephath widow obeyed the man of God and baked a cake as he had instructed. She placed God first.

The Word of God says to seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness first, and all these things will be added to you (all your needs will be met) – Matthew 6:26-33. He also says that He will supply all our needs (Philippians 4:19), while in Psalm 23, David reminds us that the Lord is our Shepherd, and we shall not want.

It is important to note that in our obedience, blessings will come. The widow’s obedience brought her blessings. She took that leap of faith, and God provided for her and her son. They did not die. God loves us and cares for us, and will always provide for His children. He provided a Saviour for us! (John 3:16). It’s His nature to provide. What are your needs today?

Prayer

God, thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus Christ, to die for us. You have already provided for our greatest need, our need of salvation. Thank You. Jehovah, thank you for supplying all our needs as we walk in obedience and seek Your kingdom first. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
