“And when you offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving to the Lord, offer it of your own free will.”
Leviticus 22:29 (NKJV)
Sitting here reflecting on God’s goodness I remembered having a serious situation and my response at the time was, ‘God you take control.’ The song “Give Thanks” bubbled from deep within me, and I began to sing praises to my Lord. As I continued to sing I felt less troubled in my spirit.
Sometimes we want a quick fix, but a quick fix doesn’t give our Mighty God the glory. I’m grateful that I chose to let go and let Him have His way, He does what He wants to do, with our permission. You might be thinking, with our permission? Yes! Our God, the Father, is a gentleman; He would never push Himself on us. He allows us to see the importance of having Him care for us. When we spend time praising and worshipping Him, He moves in to tabernacle with us and in turn, blesses us abundantly.
Let us consider David, he was a man after God’s own heart and spent lots of time praising Him. In Psalm 33:1-3 (NIV), we read, “Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. Praise the Lord with the harp; make music to Him on the ten-stringed lyre. Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.” Thanksgiving should come from a place deep inside where all you think about is thanking God. Our lifestyle should be one of thanksgiving. Not only when things are well but, even when a storm may be brewing, or you’re in the storm, praise God. Hallow His name.
Psalm 34:1-3 tells us to bless the Lord at all times, and let His praise continually be in our mouths. Let our souls boast in the Lord, and let us exalt His name forever. Oh, come magnify the Lord with me. Spend time praising God. He is great and greatly to be praised. Hallelujah!
