The Blood Covenant – Part 2

The Blood Covenant – Part 2

Isaiah 53:4-5 (NIV)

“Surely He took up our pain and bore our suffering…He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him..” Isaiah 53:4-5 (NIV)

Myer Pearlman, author of, “Knowing the Doctrines of the Bible”, compared the animal blood sacrifices made in the Old Testament to the blood sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ in the New Testament and concluded that the one sacrifice in the New Testament is superior. In advancing the foregoing, Myers stated that while recognising the divine ordination of animal sacrifices, it was by no means an atonement. There was a wide disparity between an irrational, irresponsible creature and a man made in God’s image; and that the animal did not perform the sacrifice intelligently or voluntarily was evident. There was no fellowship between the offerer and the victim.

He concluded from the foregoing that it was plain an animal sacrifice on one hand could not weigh in the balance against a human soul, nor on the other, exercise any spiritual power on the inner man. There was nothing in the blood of an irrational creature that could impact the spiritual redemption of a soul; that could only be by the offering of a perfect human life.

Thus, God’s promise of forgiveness of sins and eternal life is deeply rooted in the blood that was shed by His Son Jesus Christ on the cross on Calvary. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, so whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). While in Hebrews 10:4, we read “It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins” (NIV). We have been made holy through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ – Hebrews 10:10.

Friends, the Word of God is calling. Stop sinning, especially after receiving the knowledge of truth; have a fearful expectation of God’s judgement so that you will not be consumed by the fire – Hebrews 10:26-27 (NIV). Pray for God’s divine intervention in your life.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I confess that I have strayed from Your narrow gate and I am now on the broad road that leads to destruction. Like the prodigal son, I repent of my wicked ways and I am returning to You, through Your Son Jesus, asking for forgiveness. I hold on to Your Word in Jeremiah 3:14 which states that You are married to the backslider, and in the name of Jesus, I submit my entire being to You for Your Holy Spirit to cleanse me of every evil habit that is resident within my spirit, soul and body, in Jesus’. Amen!
