…For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me –
Exodus 20:5 (NKJV)
Some of us know some things about the lives of our grandparents while very few of us have any knowledge about our great-grandparents. Generally, we know almost nothing about our family history. However, in accordance with God’s Word, parents have the mandate to teach their children the history of their own family, especially those things God did in the lives of their ancestors – both blessing and curse (Deut.4:9-10, 6:6-7).
Split families and multiple marriages destroy any sense of heritage or continuity of family lines.
The lack of knowledge of our family history can seriously affect our lives since we are unable to learn from the good and/or bad experiences of our ancestors. Secondly, we are unaware of the curses we inherited through their sins, resulting in us walking in the sins of our forefathers and reaping the consequences as a result.
God declared in Hosea 4:6, ‘My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou has rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou has forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.’ (KJV)
The sins of our forefathers can have devastating effects on a family unit or the whole family line. It is important to note that satanic emissaries have a good understanding of the importance of heritage. As such, when they place a curse on a family, they are sure to include all the family’s descendants in the curse.
There are some families where various forms of mental and/or physical illnesses have been passed down through generations. Some other family lines are characterised by poverty, divorce, incest, uncontrolled anger, suicidal tendencies, and all forms of oppression, among others. We may not know what demonic covenant was made by our forefathers but God’s Word in Jeremiah 33:3 states “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” (NKJV). As God gives us the revelation we will declare war against the enemy.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus, we acknowledge, confess and repent of our sins and the sins of our forefathers and ask for Your forgiveness and cleansing. We petition You to remove every curse of disease, financial deprivation, mental and physical depression, suppression, and oppression that has a direct correlation on our lives, our siblings, and our children.
In the name of Jesus, we take authority over every curse and command it to be broken right now, in Jesus’ name, Amen. (Luke10:19).
