‘And Joshua said to the people, “Sanctify yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you.” – Joshua 3:5 (NKJV)
The people of Israel were about to enter and possess the Promised Land, a land flowing with milk and honey. Similarly, we are about to possess what God has in store for us. However, what God has in store for us will only manifest when we are sanctified. We must live a sanctified life. God is not impressed by our outward appearance and our religious dogmas, but He is impressed when we decide to be sanctified, i.e., set apart unto Him.
In the Old Testament, the children of Israel, holy objects, and days were sanctified, consecrated, dedicated, or devoted to God (Leviticus 27:16-28; Deuteronomy 5:12, 15:19; Exodus 29:27; 32:29, etc). Aaron and his Sons were sanctified or consecrated to minister to the Lord (Exodus 28:41).
God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are involved in the process of sanctification. As Christians, we are sanctified by God the Father (Jude 1) and by faith in Jesus (Acts 26:18). This allows us to share our faith confidently.
Joshua told the people they should sanctify themselves, and God would do wonders. The word ‘wonder’ comes from the Hebrew word ‘Pele’, the root word for miracles. Do you need a miracle today? Do you have any impossible situations in your life? Then you need to contact the God that performs wonders. As you do, you allow God to work in and through you, causing others to follow Him.
Friends, ‘sanctify yourselves’ by committing your lives to God. We can do all things through Christ, Who strengthens us (Philippians 4:13). Let’s separate ourselves (2 Corinthians 6:17) and allow the Lord to do wonders among us. God can only work through sanctified hearts.
Prayer
Father, You are a wonderful God; we love and praise You. Today, I believe that Jesus is the Son of God who died on the cross to save and sanctify me. I cry out for mercy and ask that You grant us the grace to sanctify ourselves to You. We thank You for being the God of wonders. Perform miracles in our midst, and use us for Your glory and honour, in Jesus’s name, Amen.
