The Christ in Christmas

The Christ in Christmas

John 3:17 (ESV)

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him – John 3:17 (ESV)

We usually hear people say that Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. Some folks say so because it is the time of the year when they receive many gifts, others because they get the opportunity to have fellowship with family members who they were unable to connect with throughout the year. Further, others receive additional finances due to bonuses received, while others are just glad that they will get the opportunity to attend multiple parties where they will eat, drink and have a grand time without spending any money.

However, the real reason why Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year is that God, Who created all human beings in His image and likeness – Genesis 1:26-28 (ESV), saw that we were living in sin and heading towards a lost eternity. Because of His great love for us, He devised a plan to save mankind: He caused a virgin named Mary to be pregnant by the Holy Spirit and she brought forth a son whose name is Jesus. Thus, the Advent. God then allowed His only son to live among us in order to fulfil the salvation plan. Therefore, JESUS is the reason why we rejoice in this season (John 1:14 (NIV).

So while we partake in all the festivities and activities that are associated with this season, we must remember to take stock of our lives and make sure that Jesus Christ is where He belongs, let Him be at the centre of it all so that He will lead and guide us into all truth, throughout this season and beyond – John 16:13 (NIV).
