“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” – Romans 5:8 (NKJV)
The outstanding event of human history is the fact that Christ died for our sins (1 Corinthians 15:3).
The atoning death of Christ is considered the unique feature of the Christian religion (Myer Pearlman).
There is a certain true relationship between man and his Maker. Something happened that destroyed that relationship (Genesis 3:6). Therefore, mankind is incapable of taking care of his sinful nature himself; as such, deliverance must come from God. God must take the initiative and save man if he is to be saved.
Jesus came to die in order to restore all humanity to a right relationship with the Creator (John 14:6). He bore for us what we should have borne; He accomplished for us what we were powerless to do for ourselves. He did it because it was the will of the Father (Mark 14:36).
That weekend of events (crucifixion) emphasises the following:
A. Unconditional Love: God’s love is not based on our merits or actions but on His own initiative and character.
B. Demonstration of Love: The death of Christ is the ultimate demonstration of God’s love, showing that He was willing to sacrifice His Son for all humanity.
C. Grace and Unworthiness: God’s love extends to us even while we are still sinners, meaning we are in a state of rebellion and unworthiness (until we accept Him).
D. Christ Sacrifice: Jesus’ death on the cross was a sacrifice for our sins, allowing for reconciliation with God.
E. Hope and Assurance: God loves us unconditionally and has provided a way for us to be saved through faith in Jesus Christ.
Be encouraged as you give Him your heart today.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your unconditional love towards us in that You sent Your only Begotten Son to die in our place. Thank You for the gift of everlasting life, in Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
