The Family That Dared to Believe God – Part 1

“Thus Noah did; according to all that God commanded him, so he did.”

Genesis 6:22 (NKJV)

What would be your reaction as a family if your father, who is the only financial provider of the family, indicated during a family meeting that out of his love and obedience to God, he would tithe his entire monthly salary? Imagine some of the questions that would be asked: How are we going to meet our basic expenses? Are you sure? How would you support us? Etc. How many times has God given us (family) a task that seems impossible to our minds but expects us to be obedient? His Word reminds us that without faith, it is impossible to please Him (God) – Hebrews 11:6

Noah and his family members dared to believe God when He gave them a task. Noah’s task was to build a huge structure, an Ark, to save “two of all living creatures…male and female” (Genesis 6:19 – NIV) and his family. God was going to destroy the earth with floodwaters because of the great wickedness present among the people of the earth (Genesis 6-7)

Noah and neither the people of his day understood what floodwaters were since such occurrences had never occurred from the beginning of creation. Noah’s family, however, trusted and supported him in undertaking the task God had given him. We can only imagine what his fellow citizens said and did, but Noah remained obedient to God and the task.

There are no accounts of Noah’s siblings and relatives rendering assistance, similar to many situations today. Families are isolated when completing tasks that God asks of them. However, as believers of the Lord Jesus Christ, we have been commissioned by Him to go into the world and preach the Good News to all mankind. Let us obey as Noah and his family did. Let us warn about God’s judgment yet offer all God’s way of Salvation (Mark 16:15-16). Be the family that dared to believe in God and His promises.
