The Focus

“I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live forever:..” –  John 6:51 (KJV)

“Jesus at the centre of it all….”. Oh, how we love to sing that song! But what does it mean to be at the centre? And what is the ‘it’ to which we are referring?

One of the dictionary meanings of centre is: ‘The point from which an activity or process is directed, or on which it is focused.’ Any believer should therefore say with confidence that Jesus is the centre of their life, their focus. Think of John 3:16 (KJV), “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” The focus, the reason, the point from which salvation is directed, is Jesus.

So, what is the “it”? Everything that pertains to our lives as further explained in 1 John 4:9, “In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten Son…that we might live through Him.” Thus, it is beholden for us to live by the Word of God, His instructions, commandments, promises and His love  – Matthew 4:4.

Luke 10:27-28 (KJV) says, “And He answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. And He said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.”

So if Jesus is the centre of our lives, then we ought to live as He lived, loving and serving, not only God the Father but our fellow labourers as well. We ought to live in truth and righteousness. We ought to live by His Word. That’s our focus.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your son to die in our place. Thank You for showing us clearly that He is the centre of our world, and all that pertains to life and godliness. Please give us the grace to live as You lived Lord Jesus. Continue to empower and strengthen us, so that we can truly say that we are Yours, in Jesus’s name. Amen.
