“Take my yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” – Matthew 11:29 (KJV)
When we say we have to get to the heart of the matter, we mean we have to get to the bottom of it.
The heart is the foundation. The heart is the core. The heart is where real motives, real character, and real spiritual condition are rooted. So, when we dig deep, what do we see or find?
Being at the bottom, at the core, deep within, speaks of a place of solitude and of being totally surrounded. This is the place where all our actions flow, from deep inside. This is the place where God shapes you in solitude, surrounds you completely, and prepares you quietly for what will later be seen publicly as you minister.
Moses was shaped in the desert, David in the fields, and Elijah by the brook.
Discipleship, therefore, is that everyday learning and following that eventually leads to trust. Learning and following, developing a pattern to do the things Jesus wants us to do confidently. The bottom is where God works in you before He works through you; diligently, one step at a time.
Learn of Him, for He is meek, He is lowly, He is welcoming. He does not force, intimidate, or manipulate. He’s humble, accessible, and safe. Then, as you develop that habit of walking side by side with Him, reach out to that neighbour, reach out to that brother or sister, and be meek, be gentle, be lowly, they will feel your welcome and follow Jesus.
Why? Because nothing artificial can survive His presence. Here is where pretenses die, motives are revealed, and character is formed.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, we adore You. Thank You that we can be yoked with You, to share Your love, to share Your compassion, to share Your warm embrace, for this is the heart of discipleship. Thank You, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
